Viola da Gamba

Lucas studied first piano and double bass. Devoting himself to the viola da gamba since 2001, and starting to work for several early music ensembles in Chile. In 2015 he moved to Lyon and joined the viola da gamba class of Marianne Muller. He did an Erasmus at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig, and graduated in Master of Early Music at the CNSMD in Lyon in 2019. Between 2019 and 2021 he completed an Artist diploma at the CNSMD in Lyon dedicated to the development of an artistic project which integrates early music, contemporary dance, electroacoustic composition and visual arts.
He is currently a member of the ensemble Le Mirroir de Phoebus, Il Parlatorio and La Quinta Pars, together with which recently won the Young Talents 2021 Competition at the Sinfonia en Périgord festival.

As a researcher, performer and composer of this instrument, Lucas does not only the Baroque and Renaissance repertoire, he develops widely in the field of contemporary music, free improvisation, and also focusing in the music for vihuela d’arco and viola da gamba solo, encompassing a range of musical expressions from the Middle Ages until his own compositions.
